How to Convert More Traffic Into Sales

Let’s talk about, what you do when you have an increased amount of traffic on your website and how more of this traffic can be converted into sales.

In professional jargon “converting traffic into sales” is called as “sales funnel”. Use of keywords and SEO helps us to find targeted traffic.

Internet users increasingly search the Web using long-tail keywords and it’s important to understand how your sales funnel converts traffic for that specific keyword.

Let’s examine it as a systematic process, starting where your prospects come from, to how you pro-actively guide them through your sales process and convert them to loyal client.

The effectively your sales funnel perform, is the most challenging and fun aspect when Generating new Leads.

You know, not all keywords are created equal — you still have to find out how commercial your keyword phrase is.

Even if you figure out which keyword phrases have commercial intent and which one don’t, and no matter how good and effective the keyword research tool you use, it can’t give you all the keywords searchers use as Internet users are increasingly searching the Web using more specific, long-tail keywords.

In fact, searches using eight or more words have increased 20% year-on-year, while one- and two-word searches have decreased by 3% and 5% respectively.

Did you know, not all keywords are made equal and 85% of all keywords fail to convert traffic to even one single sale?

So what you can do to find the right keywords to target and better convert your traffic?

Use the data you have Use your log files.

  • Each keyword comes with a large data (cost per click, change in cost per click, advertiser competition, monthly search volumes, average search volume and etc) that you can use.

If you already have an analytics of your site, take a look at your conversions organically…

Use the tools available today to find out how commercial your keyword phrase is, identify and target those keywords which may only get a handful of searches but convert well.

Test those keywords in brief PPC campaigns and capture additional customers.

You can find many examples of keywords that seemed certain to work for a site but turned out to be waste of money and time.

  • Or, it happens, someone provides you with the keywords list which converts for them, and when you use them on your site they don’t convert and fail.

Seems like its all part of the process.

Since a different people are attracted to different offers (human nature), if a site is successful with a handful of keyword phrases, you can’t automatically assume that you can use them as they are in your site, and you will gain conversions by using them…

…even if you are in the same industry… or even if you are promoting the same product.

As a matter of fact, your offers will be different and your sites will have different look or styles, it can directly affect conversion on your site.

One more thing, when you find the good profitable keywords don’t be stupid and do SEO for all these keyword phrases.

Don’t you wait weeks or months to get a good enough ranking to actually measure the traffic being sent.

How to Convert More Traffic Into Sales

Well, you can do that of course — that’s your business — if you still have one by then.

  • Remember, your target is not just driving traffic to your site… you want traffic that converts to sales.

Don’t go wild after driving hordes of visitors to your landing page… If you want to earn big money from website, it’s better to have a little traffic of a mere 10 people a day on your site that converts to customers or leads, then driving thousands that don’t convert at all.

  • And again, use a brief PPC campaign to verify quickly whether the traffic on your site converts or not.

So, said  that, if you want better converting traffic hitting your website I would recommend start with keywords:

  • Narrow down your choice of keywords for a PPC campaign
  • Check out the results and evaluate keywords based on the results
  • If you have to change the keywords repeat these steps
  • Test the new keywords with a small PPC campaign.
