No Sales or Losing Sales? Blame Your Browser!

If you are checking your website analytics then you most likely have noticed that the visitors of your website use more then 10 various browsers when they come to your site.

Browser compatibility is a common problem that many beginner marketers ignore or are not even aware of.

I have run into this problem when I changed graphics design on one of my websites — after some time I noticed significant decrease in sales from the website. I didn’t realize that missing tag in HTML code was distorting the whole page and I was losing sales.

Experienced web designers usually use at least 2 or even more the most popular browsers to see how the website is displayed.

Now, I’m using Google Chrome to surf the web and it happens quite often that good looking websites aren’t showing right in my browser.

Is there anything we can do about this?

It’s interesting enough that the advanced surfers do not use IE as their browser! But… still too many people use IE as their main browser.

People usually blame the non-IE browser when something doesn’t look/work the way they want it to, when, in fact, IE is the browser rendering the page the wrong way.

And, more often than not, if you make the page work in the IE browser, not all non-IE browsers display your web pages correctly.

Why do people design for IE first?

Not sure, maybe because it’s an easy way out with IE the top browser. I know that I was uneducated in the ways of browsers when I first started in web design and because I used IE and majority of my viewers used IE by a long way I designed for that base.

I don’t know if this is the best way but I am learning and take into consideration the experience and advice from others. I view the page in IE, but I sure don’t use it as the corner stone of any development.

Now I understand the compatibility game better when I use Firefox, Chrome, IE, Safari and Opera to check my sites.

And I advise you to do the same too.
